new vista backup

New Vista Backup?

Hi,
Been playing for a couple of weeks now, wanted to do a full backup image?
Can't get this to work at the moment, according to the help file its "still under development" fair enough its beta innit.
Tried to get it to backup to a DVD-R but could not do so (wanted to format but could not write to the disk), I have no DVD-RWs or RAMs to try. Have not tried a spare partition or a USB HDD yet because both involve major plumbing work and cannibalising other machines & there appears to be no option to do a full image to a network drive which I assume is being added to the final build (surely?)
Oh
yeah tried Acronis 9.0 v3633, installed OK, ran OK all went fine till I tried to backup then it crashed.......bugger!
I would try Ghost but I am not that daft.
So is backup working for anybody and is it possible to get a full drive image out of it by any method?
I am looking at this in desperation, works fine on a linux box & there is a tempting NTFS experimental version but it took me a week of headbanging to get the Linux version to work so I am wondering is it worth the effort.

If you are dual booting with XP then you can back up your files from there.

Boot from the Acronis recovery CD and image from there. Acronis can image almost anything when booting from the CD.

Just thought of that one, tried it and Acronis can't find a HDD, its a Deskstar on SATA so as Acronis boot works fine on other SATA equipped machines I have surmised its probably a hardware / driver related problem.
I will sort it out tommorow
Cheers Kerry

I have 2 Seagate SATA drives that can't be seen by Acronis TI 9 . Acronis has acknowledged the problem is theirs and are working with the info i gave them on a fix. In the meantime, I can see the drives and thus do the restore via a thumb drive BartPE XP install I built using the Acronis BartPE plugin.

Thanks for the info bir, I have other SATA drives on the same type MOBOs which work just fine with Acronis 9.0 and v8.0 for that matter, Having had a look today and found nothing wrong my next stop was Acronis.
I recall using this particular type of Deskstar SATA HD before with XP and having problems with Acronis v8.0 seeing it when booting. I think my fix is going to be a Barracuda that I know works and relegate this HD to storage only.
I will contact Acronis with the details.

Should do from boot CD - you tried that? I did but am having hardware issues with the machine Vista is installed on, I will try a different box tonight to prove it one way or aniother.
